The Welkin

Tense drama by Lucy Kirkwood
Tue 7th May 2024 to Sat 11th May 2024

Directed by: Annie Eddington

1759, the Norfolk/Suffolk border. As the country awaits the anticipated arrival of Halley’s Comet, a child has been murdered. The residents of a rural town are out for blood. Sally Poppy has been convicted. All that can save her from a sentence of hanging is a plea that she is pregnant. If so, she will live.

Sally’s fate lies with twelve women, locked in one room, without ‘meat, drink, fire or candle’, who are tasked with determining whether she is pregnant as she claims.

Lucy Kirkwood is a highly acclaimed Bristish playwright with several hard hitting dramas to her name including Chimerica, The Children, Mosquitoes, Maryland (performed by SDS) and, in 2022, Rapture

CONTENT WARNING: Contains strong language and scenes of a distressing nature.
